Winning the Argument.

After digesting the influence of the Great Awakening and religious zeal in colonial America, do we think it is possible that revolutionary leaders could have stirred and implemented revolutionary action without using religious rhetoric or scriptural backing?
Could Thomas Paine have made his point so clearly, have been so influential, or have written an equivalent to Common Sense without religious justifications?
Could the Patriot cause have rallied enough support without involving religious arguments? Could the Loyalist for that matter? Could either side have held up against the other without using religion? Has this ever occurred in martial history, where a side has not employed a religious argument?
